However, with caution and awareness, we can take care of ourselves and know how to eat right during the monsoons.  The season will tempt you to eat a lot of sweets, fries and hot food. The Monsoon time is the season where many diseases affect the digestive system. It is important for you to avoid street food and avoid drinking water from unhygienic sources. Ensure you boil water before you consume it.

It is crucial for you to embrace a healthy diet for the monsoons.  The following are some tips on what to eat during the monsoons-

  • Drink beverages warm. You can add ginger, mint or ginger powder to tea

  • Try to consume naturally sour food that is not fermented. Such food are tamarind, lime, buttermilk and tomato. Have them in vegetables, dals, soups etc
  • Consume moong dal. The consistency of the dal should not be thick but watery in nature.
  • The best vegetables for the monsoon seasons are dudhi, parwal, bhindi, suran, karela and roasted baingain or brinjal.
  • The best fruits you should take for the monsoons are bananas, chikoos, strawberries and pomegranates.
  • If you are a non-vegetarian, you should go in for lighter curries of meat preparations.
  • Do not eat raw food during the monsoons. You should have stir-fried vegetables and eat small quantities moderately during the whole day.
  • As mentioned above, only consume boiled and filtered water
When you are consuming vegetables, you should wash them thoroughly especially the leafy variants. They tend to contain worms and larvae. Moreover, they also collect a lot of dirt from the roads.  If you are a working professional, it is important for you to carry lunch from home. You may be tempted to eat street food like chats, fries and more. However, they are rich sources of infection and the chances of falling ill are very high.
